It was the most frustrating thing... we were in St. Louis and all we wanted to do was see the Arch close up... well, there's a whole ton of construction going on and no matter what we couldn't get close! We drove around in "Olde St Louis" (with the original cobblestone, narrow and banged up streets with the camper behind us, of course!) and due to recent rains, most of the streets ended IN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER! So we finally pulled over in front of this old building that looked like a post office. It turns out it was actually the Courthouse where sometime in the 1800s, Dred Scott and his wife filed a petition with the court to be free (they were in other states, and they wanted to be in Missouri, too!) The courthouse is now part of a federal park that includes the Arch. The courthouse is opened until 10 and is free... woohoo! So we went in and explored. Many of the courtrooms and even judges' chambers were just open for us to walk around in and see what it was like! It was fantastic!
As we were walking out, we passed the counter where they sold the tickets to ride in the little pod-tram to the top of the Arch. Brian, Oscar, Milo & Tuesday were super brave and decided to go for it... so we bought their tickets to the top and decided to walk to the Arch rather than fight traffic and dead end streets.
